Slash Pile Burning
An inspection and walk through will be approved by both parties prior to starting the project. Any changes and/or additions will need to be approved ahead of work being done, additional cost may apply. Cortez Fire staff, Cortez Fire Protection District assumes all responsibility for extinguishment along with containing and controlling of the burn area for any ignitions that are being ignited. A minimum of one type 6 engine will be on standby during this portion of the project. If the project requires more equipment or personnel, an additional cost may apply. A smoke permit will be purchased by CFPD at the Landowner’s expense and a state burn plan shall be completed prior to burning. A public notification will be posted on-line 24 hrs. prior to burning and will include warning road signs the day of burning.

Standby / Assist
This project work consists of Cortez Fire Protection District personnel being on-site and placed on standby for Landowner’s security, while burning slash or debris. If in the case that fire were to escape or if CFPD personnel observes an immediate risk (or potential) and needs to take immediate action and extinguishment preventing the spread to a wildfire, all ignitions will be stopped and all uncontrolled fire will be contained and controlled prior to continuing. A brief assessment from CFPD fire personnel will determine if conditions are safe to continue. The Landowner shall be responsible for all cost; a minimum of one type 6 engine will be on standby.

Chipping
Prior to starting the project, an inspection and walk through shall occur to determine the amount of debris that will be produced for chipping. The amount to be chipped shall be approved by both parties prior to work beginning. Any changes and/or additions will need to be approved ahead of work being done, additional cost may apply.
If debris is produced by parties other than CFPD, the following procedures for piling shall be observed:
- All butt ends of the branches shall face the direction of chipper access
- All debris shall be “hand piled”, no machine piling. If piles are produced by machine, an extra charge may apply.
- Piles shall be placed in an area easily accessible for the chipper.
