Captain’s Position
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Fire Captain functions as a first-level, working supervisor responsible for management, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the actions of Firefighters and other staff members assigned to their shift either permanently or temporarily while at incidents involving; fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, public education, fire prevention, fire inspection, training and in-station activities. The Fire Captain is responsible for the selection of proper strategies and implementation of appropriate tactics in the mitigation of emergency incidents, and is accountable for the safety and well-being of emergency personnel and civilians throughout such incidents. The Fire Captain will serve as the initial Incident Commander in the absence or until the arrival of a Chief Officer.
